2021: The Year of Taking It To The Next Level

“Every next level of your life will demand a different you." - Leonardo DiCaprio

Wow, correct me if I'm wrong but 2020 was definitely the year of change and growth however, not only for me but for others as well. Looking back at the past year, it definitely offered opportunities for growth that I couldn't even imagine. In my opinion as a nation, one word that would describe us this year is resilience. When I hear the word resilience the following thoughts and words pop up in my mind:

  1. Toughness

  2. When you fall back down, you get back up

  3. Recovery

  4. Overcoming challenges

With all the change this past year it took resilience to overcome the challenges we faced. I feel this year we all took a rise whether it was fighting Covid-19, speaking up for what we believe in or coming together as neighbors to lift and serve one another.

I learned that relationships are valuable and that we do need one another when it comes overcoming challenges. I rather come together as a community rather than face challenges alone.

Now let's talk about 2021: The Year of Taking It To The Next Level...what does that mean to you? What does the next level in your life look like? Have you ever heard of the definition of insanity?

“Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” -Albert Einstein

What are you doing differently this year? Is it going to be the year that you are going to carry the motivation from January 1, 2021 until the end of the year? In order to fulfill those New Year's resolutions, it’s going to require a different you.

When I talk about “different you” I don't mean changing who you are but rather becoming the best version of yourself. 9/10 times when we create New Year's resolutions it's always for the positive and moving on to the next level in our lives rather than a negative result. Have you ever heard of a resolution as silly as,” spend all my money or get demoted from my job?” Of course not! It’s usually quite the opposite and I feel we create these goals because we want to either install or get rid of certain habits.

Just looking at the word "resolution" what word do you see within? Solution, that's right! Have you ever thought that us sticking to a resolution we make for ourselves can result in solving problems we may have? We are coming up with solutions to move on and achieve the next level in our lives.

Habits are usually something hard to give up. For instance, it’s difficult for many people to give up smoking even though we all know the negative consequences however, we aren't thinking of the consequences at the moment instead, we are feeling "good." However, that feeling is temporarily where as the consequences can be permanent. On the brighter side, when we develop positive habits, it may not feel"good" because what we should be doing isn't always easy. We come up with excuses such as YOLO or I'm too tired yet, when we overcome those excuses and stick to our habits the consequence can be you achieving a resolution...permanently.

“We first make our habits, and then our habits make us.” -John Dryden

To level up, you first need to write down your goals. How can you level up if you don’t know what the next level even looks like?

I’m serious…write your goals! Grab a piece of paper and write them down. When you finish, post that piece of paper somewhere where you can read it everyday.

If you're still reading this, I assume you wrote your goals now. Next, it’s going to take certain habits to obtain them. What can you do daily/weekly and/or monthly to get you one step closer to your goal and to level up?

You may be wondering, why is 2021: The Year of Taking It To The Next Level? The amount of resilience and lessons I've learned during 2020 will kickstart me to the next level.

If we made it through 2020, we can make it through 2021. Life is so precious and it’s something we can take for granted at times. When we play video games, our goal is to get to the next level so we can reach the “finish” line and we have unlimited lives in the game to get there. However, we only have one life in the real world. What do you want your life to look like? For me, 2021 I want to learn more about myself and create a clear vision for my future so I can race towards that finish line.

2020 loaded me up with confidence, resilience, forgiveness(for myself and others) and a heart of gratitude. I’m geared up to taking it to the next level in my career, relationships and personal development.

I promise you, my story of success will be worth reading one day and so will yours.
